Pre-Transfer Setup
Equipment & Materials Required
- Face mask
- Nitrile gloves
- 70% alcohol
- Scissors
- Paper towels
- Catch bin
- Impulse sealer
- Flow hood
Preparation Steps
- Turn on the impulse sealer (allow 10 minutes to warm up)
- Turn on the flow hood
- Put on mask and gloves
- Sanitize working area thoroughly with alcohol
Transfer Procedure
Initial Sanitization
- Spray hands/gloves thoroughly with alcohol, including between fingers and backs of hands
- Wipe the source bag with alcohol-saturated paper towel
- Arrange transfer bags for easy access within hood reach
- Give scissors a final alcohol wipe
Transfer Process
- Cut open bags using single, clean cuts Keep hands BELOW bag openings
- Maintain consistent workflow rhythm
- Monitor sealer settings regularly
- Check seal integrity every few bags
Mixing Process
- Transport bags to mixer in catch box/crate
- Run mixer for 2 minutes
- Apply labels during loading/unloading
- Remove and dispose of any compromised bags immediately
- Vacuum area when complete
Final Processing
- Push out excess air
- Add Instruction Card
- For grain, roll bags loosely leaving air in top
- Secure with tape
In-House Storage Processing
- Put back in transfer crate
- Use cardboard separators between layers
- Move to inhouse plug or grain incubation
Amazon Shipment Processing
- Package immediately into a 16x12x8 box (40-50 bags, 16 lb weight)
- Box Label format: [Quantity]-[Strain Initials]-[Date]
- Example: "40 LMN 1/1/23"
Quality Control Standards
- Maintain sterile conditions throughout process
- Validate sealer is properly calibrated
- Perform regular seal checks
- Document and label any issues or compromised bags
- Keep work area clean and organized
