Nebrodensis Mushroom
Pleurotus nebrodensis, commonly known as Funciu di basilicu, is a fungus that was declared by the IUCN as critically endangered in 2006. This fungus naturally grows on limestone in northern Sicily. It was classified as critically endangered because it is found in an area of less than 100 square kilometers (39 sq mi), and the population is losing its natural habitat. We have preserved and suspended this species to ensure its survival and availability for research. In addition to this, this fungus is being grown and sold commercially to reduce the stress on the wild population and ensure it's survival. These cultivated fungi have the same flavor and aroma as the wild specimens, so please leave the wild specimens alone and source them responsibly.Environment Information
