📚 Mushroom History

Dating back over 1,000 years, Shiitake was first cultivated during the Song Dynasty (960-1127) in China. The name comes from the Japanese words "shii" (referring to the tree it commonly grows on) and "take" (mushroom). By the 1600s, Japanese farmers developed the log cultivation technique that's still used today. During World War II, Japanese scientists pioneered sawdust block cultivation, revolutionizing commercial production. In the 1970s, it became the first medicinal mushroom to be scientifically investigated for its anti-cancer properties.
